Q. First of all... how did you come up with the name Proficy ?
A. I chose that name over 10 years ago I dont remember exactly but
I think I was watching a show about prophecies on tv and it
interested me.
Q. What made you start making music?
A. My friends rapped and just handed me the mic one day. Then I
started recording on a kareoke machine, then at different places
till I finally got my own recording setup like 2 years ago. I like
writing more then rapping cuz everyone of my verses is like a
journal entry of my life, writing is the easy part its the work to
get it from paper to speaker thats hard.
Q. What are your biggest influences in your music career?
A. I grew up listening to Tupac, Master P, Three-Six Mafia, all the
'90s rap, and Psychopathic. What younger people today call wicked
rap is really just '90s gangsta rap with a twist of juggalo rap.
Q. How long have you been making music?
A. I've been rapping over 10 years but I had about a 3 year period
where I didnt rap cuz I really didnt have a way too record.
Q. Do you produce your own beats or do you have someone make them?
A. I have 3 different beat guys including Slumz Harvests own Panik
aka iLL Perception aka iLLaDviZed.
Q. What artists have you previously worked with?
A. I have released 2 free collab cds now so the list is too long
but probably nobody anyones heard of anyhow i'm underground and
only like to listen to mostly unknown underground music so I pick
the best ones to collab with and wont pay money for a collab.
Q. Out of all the artists you have worked with in the past, who do
you seem to collab with easier?
A. Anyone wicked and unique with a good flow and voice or a good
theme for song so I can follow. My best songs are collabs cuz then
I know what im writing about instead of just random thoughts.
Q. What makes you strive to become the best artist that you can be?
A. I quit rapping for 3 years but then my girl died in a car
accident and I started rapping again to release my stress and anger
and deep emotional issues its the only way I can get it all out.
I'm doing this for her she always believed in me and loved my
music. I also do it for the haters they spark my fire to prove all
the doubters and nonbelievers wrong.
Q. What project are you currently working on at this point in time?
A. I just released my second free collab cd i'm going to keep doing
those and free label mixtapes till I die or get signed. Next is my
second label mixtape droppin by the end of '09.
Q. Who would you like to see yourself collab with at some point in
ur career?
A. I would like to collab with anyone from Psychopathic or any of
the rappers I grew up listening too but most are dead or in jail.
Q. Think 10 years from now, where do u see yourself?
A. LOL I like to think i'm psychic but there could be many
different answers to that. I like to believe if there is a GOD i'll
make it but if not I probably wont, cuz its not how good you are,
its who you know.
